Al-Wahida was formed in 2007 to meet the fantastic interest in football amongst the young people of the Calthorpe Park Area of Balsall Heath.
 
There had always been teams playing friendlies against sides from all over Birmingham in the park but Al-Wahida is the first venture into an organised league.

After joining The Shapla League for the current season the team has now found its footballing feet and is moving up the league. The team draws its players from a very diverse area and is open to all from the community.  The players are mainly from the Yemini and Somalian Communities which reflects tthe teams catchment area. 
 
There is now such interest it would be possible to play at least 3 teams from different age groups and there is a Young Womens Team in waiting who are demanding friendlies.
   
Al-Wahida is a young team and its organisers hope to turn it into a medium to use football as a very positive diversionary activity and a promotional tool for community cohesion for young people.  

Mahdi is proving to be a strong and effective captain and it has been our good fortune that he and his two brothers came to play for us.   

Thanks to Apple who is doing a really good job as the team coach and match day organiser.  Its hard work getting a team together for match day and dealing with all the ego's. 

Thanks to Hanie's father for using his minibus on match days.
