| Club Profile |
Sparkhill Rangers FC was established in 1983 by a group of Bangladeshi youths, living in and around the Sparkhill area of Birmingham. It was formed at the time to provide leisure and a weekly get-together of local Bangladeshi youths but soon became more than that as Sparkhill Rangers FC began to participate in football tournaments all over the country. Sparkhill Rangers FC was a very progressive, young and dynamic team with great ambitions. In 1993 the Shapla Football League was formed, which gave Sparkhill Rangers FC the opportunity to fulfil their potential. After only a year of joining the Shapla Football League, Sparkhill Rangers FC won the Second Division title. With the start of the success, some of the most talented young Bangladeshi players the Shapla League had seen, merged from the Sparkhill Rangers FC Youth Team. In 1997 to strengthen the team further, Sparkhill Rangers FC’s managing committee decided to merge teams with local rivals, it proved to be the big turning point in the club’s history. The team was making such progress that it started to attract exceptional local and national semi-professional players. In 1998 Sparkhill Rangers FC made history by becoming the first team to win both Division 1and Division 2 titles in the same season. Sparkhill Rangers FC ‘A’ Team won the Division 1 championship while Sparkhill Rangers FC Youth Team won Division 2. It’s an achievement that no other club has so far repeated. The young team went on to break records, and make history on the way. Sparkhill Rangers FC became the first team to win the Shapla League Cup. In 1999 Sparkhill Rangers FC completed a 4-week tour of Bangladesh. The tour proved to be very successful for different reasons to every individual. The team came back from tour with a lot of experience and united as a team like never before. Sparkhill Rangers FC went on to win the Division 1 championship for 3 years consecutively, and also played in the first Shapla Cup Final that was held at Villa Park. Sparkhill Rangers FC took football to a different level, which made rival teams struggle to challenge. Often, fellow teams have praised Sparkhill Rangers FC for playing very attractive football in a professional manner and the Shapla Football League makes example of the team for being very well organised and managed. In 2003 the manager of Sparkhill Rangers FC, Mr Iqbal Hussain, decided after a long and successful period at the club to take a break from management due to personal commitments. The responsibility was passed on to Mr Moyenul Hoque who had been a key figure at the club since it was formed. Although Mr Iqbal Hussain was taking a break he regularly keeps in touch, and remains a very influential figure at the club. Mr Moyenul Hoque in season 2004/05 successfully guided the team to the Shapla League Cup Final at Villa Park. Sparkhill Rangers FC won 3-2 in the most thrilling Cup Final in the competition’s history. Unfortunately due to unforeseen circumstances, Mr Moyenul Hoque resigned from the manager’s post after the Cup Final victory. The team voted in Mr Sirajul Hoque and Mr Awlad Hossain as joint-managers. Both are current players with the team and have been the back bone of the team for many years. The new managers have a great knowledge of the game and bring a new dimension to the club. Having great young talent at the club and ambitious new managers, the future of Sparkhill Rangers FC looks very promising. Two days after winning the Cup Final at Villa Park, Sparkhill Rangers FC went and successfully toured Bangladesh for the second time, the team played 7 games on tour, winning 6 and drawing 1. One of the games was televised on Channel ‘S’ Bangladesh. Sparkhill Rangers FC is very grateful to Azad and Shebul for making this tour possible and such a success. Sparkhill Rangers FC would like to thank everyone who has contributed and supported the club over the years, especially to our generous sponsors:
