Sparkhill United FC was officially set-up in March 2006, although the idea of setting up the team had floated around for a short while before.

The team was set-up from scratch by the hard work of a group of friends. Players were attracted mainly from Sparkhill and Sparkbrook.

The majority of the squad are players that enjoyed playing football in local parks such as Sparkhill Park and The Ackers (Sparkbrook) but had no opportunities to play competitively. 

The main purpose for the creation of the team was to help young people from Sparkhill and Sparkbrook get involved in sporting activity as opportunities in these areas are limited and a regular sporting activity in many ways helps reduce the chance of these youngsters indulging in juvenile and anti social behaviour.   

We had a tremendous first season which resulted in us winning both the Shapla Division 1 title and the Shapla Cup competition, in which the final took place at Villa Park, home of Premier League team Aston Villa FC. This is the first time a team has won both trophies in their first season of competition.

Due to this great success we were able to approach the biggest and best local business in the area, Al Faisals (www.alfaisal.co.uk), the guys at Al Faisals were very kind and very pleasant and were more than happy to do their bit for the community by fully sponsoring Sparkhill United for the Shapla Cup Final and beyond.

The team was fully funded by The Big Boost in its first season, and are now fully funded by the Sparkhill Youth Forum, we are also kindly sponsored by three other businesses, The Purple Rooms (www.thepurplerooms.com), Titel Commnications (www.titel.co.uk) and Shakur Aid (www.shakuraid.org).
